・彼女はライラックの香をにおわせながら部屋に入ってきた. She came into the room giving off an odor of lilac.

・彼女は別の犯行もにおわせている. She is dropping hints of being involved in another crime.
・今日ははっきりとは言わずにおわすにとどめておこう. Today I will not make a definite statement, but leave it (as a vague hint) in the air.
・彼に転勤が近いことをにおわせておいた. I hinted [dropped a (broad) hint] that he might be transferred soon.
・証拠をつかんでいることをにおわせるだけの方が効き目があるだろう. It may be more effective just to suggest that proof has been found.
